There they were. Three days after the Horribles Parade marched by, town employees were out putting up the Christmas Lights at the Town Common. I can't say I blame them. It was a beautiful Wednesday in early November. I'm sure it's a lot less fun when the weather turns colder and they're stringing lights through trees with a wind chill. It was a reminder to me of just how much the Common is the center of action for Wilmington.
Those lights won't be turned on for time time. Mark your calendars (and check out ours!) for Saturday, December 3rd. That's the annual tree lighting at the Common; the event also includes ice sculptures, Santa and singing. We're already planning out our TV coverage!
Well before we get there, next Friday is Veterans Day. The annual ceremony in Wilmington will happen at the Common at 11AM. Come out and support our vets. We'll also have a crew there to capture the ceremony for those who can't make it.
If you haven't seen the highlights from last weekend's Horribles Parade, check out the video and pictures here. Thousands of people turned out to make the annual walk from the Public Safety Building to Wilmington High School.
Before you know it, the next big event on the Common will be moving in. That point was crystal clear to me as I parked next to the Fourth of July Building to snap the above picture.
