Meeting Audio Issues

I wanted to write to the community about ongoing issues that are affecting Board of Selectmen meetings.

We first became aware of this issue in late September and this has now impacted 3 straight meetings to varying degrees.  Essentially, viewers are losing audio for 2-4 seconds in spots throughout the live broadcast. It can create a very frustrating television experience.

We have spent hours looking into this issue, eyeing everything from the microphones to our playback system.  This problem has been especially troublesome because we have been unable to manually reproduce it.  It is seemingly happening in random spots throughout the meeting.

The recording itself is free of any issues.  Any rebroadcast or online viewing should not have any audio issues.  This is a good thing, but also complicates our efforts to pinpoint the problem, as the audio loss is happening live (and random).  Going back on our recording to figure out a trigger has not been possible.

Please know that we are aware of this issue and are continuing to work on the problem.  Live meeting coverage is an incredibly important part of what we do and we know that viewers depend on it.

If you are experiencing technical problems on our channels, please contact the station at 978-657-4066 or you can email me at sneville@wctv.org.  While we monitor our stations most of the time, we need to keep tabs on 3 television channels across 2 cable providers, as well as online streaming. Bottom line: we can't watch everything at once.  Viewer feedback is important to let us know of issues.

Thanks for your patience on this.
