WCTV to Host State Rep Debate Monday

Wilmington & Tewksbury Voters Encouraged To Watch Debate For 19th Middlesex State Rep Race

WILMINGTON, MA – Candidates in the 19th Middlesex State Representative race will square off in a debate on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 7am to 8:30pm.

The debate will be streamed live on the YouTube channels of Wilmington Community Television (WCTV) and Tewksbury Telemedia, as well as on WCTV (Comcast 9, Verizon 37) and Tewksbury Telemedia (Comcast 6, Verizon 33).

This 3-way race features Dave Robertson (D-Wilmington), Paul Sarnowski (R-Wilmington) and George Ferdinand (I-Tewksbury).

Robertson, a 3-term incumbent, defeated Sarnowski in 2022, with Sarnowski delivering a strong performance for a first-time candidate, receiving nearly 44% of the vote. With a higher turnout expected due to the Presidential Election, coupled with the inclusion of Ferdinand, an elected member of the Tewksbury Board of Health with ties to Wilmington, this race may prove to be exciting and unpredictable.

The debate will be moderated by one of Massachusetts’s top State House reporters, Katie Lannan. She currently covers Beacon Hill for GBH News, and previously spent seven years with the State House News Service. Lannan is no stranger toWilmington and Tewksbury, covering both communities for the Lowell Sun for several years earlier in her career.

Candidates will be asked questions from Lannan and a panel of local journalists, including Peter Currier of the Lowell Sun, Lizzy Hill of the Wilmington Town Crier, and Kari Weinstein of the Tewksbury Carnation. Robert Hayes, of the Wilmington Apple, will serve as time keeper.

The debate will take place at WCTV Studios. There will be nolive studio audience.

For those who can’t watch live, the debate will be available for on-demand viewing beginning the following day on the YouTube channels of WCTV and Tewksbury Telemedia. The debate will be available to watch online through Friday, November 1, 2024.

Early voting runs from Saturday, October 19, 2024 through Friday, November 1, 2024 at each community’s Town Hall. Early voting hours vary between the two towns. Contact your Town Clerk’s Office for details.

The last day to register to vote in the Election is Saturday, October 26, 2024 by 5pm.

The deadline to request a Vote by Mail or Absentee Ballot is Tuesday, October 29, 2024 by 5pm.

Election Day voting is held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, from 7pm to 8pm, at your regular polling location.

The 19th Middlesex District consists of all of Wilmington and approximately 60% of Tewksbury (Precincts 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8). The late State Representative James Miceli served much of the district from 1993 to 2018, with Robertson, his legislative aide, winning the seat following his passing.
